Filmmaker – Rebecca Autumn Sansom
Rebecca (adoptee) and her biological mother Jill Hawkins (PhD) are the first adoptee and biological mother team to make a feature length documentary about Nancy Verrier’s landmark book, The Primal Wound, which is in it’s 15th printing and translated in 7 languages.
The book The Primal Wound was first published in 1993. Adoptees often refer to it as their guidebook, though a lot of people have never heard of it. The author, Nancy Verrier, M.A., raised both an adopted daughter as well as a biological daughter, and was able to compare her children’s behavior. She became so fascinated with her adopted daughter’s response to being relinquished, that she changed careers. She became a psychologist and wrote her thesis about the separation of a mother and a child. She called this separation the primal wound.
