Fertility fraud has been an ongoing issue in the fertility industry. In February of 2023, Congressman Joe Morelle stated that the industry is “severely underregulated” and has “led to abhorrent and unethical practices that have inflicted severe trauma on too many families.”

In the 1960s, there were three different physicians that used their own sperm to impregnate women. Up until his death in a plane crash in 2023, one of those doctors was still practicing. Dr. Morris Wortman was subject to ongoing lawsuits.
